JP21 Project and Mitchells Plain Titans run like the wind
01/12/2016
It was a day to remember. In the heart of a very windy Mitchells Plain, a community made up of different ethnicities and cultures were brought together to run for the right reasons.
JP21 Project partnered with Mitchells Plain Titans to bring about its first ever 21km, 10 km and 5km fun run on Saturday, 19 November 2016. The community came together to celebrate the area’s rich, diverse culture and struggles. The race was used as a tool to create an atmosphere of hope and provide an opportunity for youth to get off the street corners and participate in something great.
Our founder, JP Duminy, was born in Mitchells Plain, has family and friends who have planted their roots in that community and therefore this event, in particular, lies very close to his heart:
“I wanted to reach the greater community; those that don’t necessarily participate in the game of cricket. I wanted this community to understand that as a collective we have the responsibility to take care of the next generation. After seeing the amount of people who participated in the race and the incredible atmosphere in the Mitchells Plain area, I was disappointed that I couldn’t be there on the day. The support the race received exceeded my expectations. A heartfelt thanks to all those involved with the preparation and execution of the race, without your invaluable contribution it would not have been possible.”
Project Manager, Jamaine Cloete, said: “We are so blessed to have been a part of this year JP21 MP TITANS RACE, we were flooded by compliments. In terms of the goals set out by this partnership, we certainly feel that we have met them, and more importantly excited by the potential of this race and what it could mean for the community of Mitchells Plain and Strandfontein. It was amazing to see some of the schools that take part in our cricket league, show their support by running the 5km. It was truly inspiring stuff, and we must compliment the MP TITANS ATHLECTICS CLUB who is the nuts and bolts of the race, for all their efforts, sacrifice and hard work, indeed Together we did!”
A huge THANK YOU to our amazing sponsors and partners: NutriBullet South Africa, PPC Cement, Adidas, Fitbit and KFM for your generous contributions to a successful and well-supported event. Without your ongoing and steadfast support, the race would not have been possible. Last but not least, thank you to Mitchells Plain Titans Athletics Club for partnering with us and affording us the opportunity to co-host this incredible race.
Well to done to all the participants, who displayed heart and perseverance through the rough terrain and elements. This event proves that together we can make a difference.
